We are currently looking for a Contracts Manager to join our Southwest regional Team and be responsible for managing Civil Engineering projects in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Hampshire. Due to the nature of the role, we are open to applications from candidates who reside in any of the following towns cities or areas as travel to projects will be required. Barnstaple, St Austell, Looe, Plymouth, Saltash, Torquay, Brixham, Paignton, Exmouth, Sidmouth, Exeter, Crediton, Cullompton, Yeovil, Tiverton, Taunton, Weymouth, Honiton and Bridgwater.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the Operations Director, the Contracts Manager will contribute to the creation and be responsible for the safe, timely & profitable delivery of multiple projects within operational areas of the business.

You will provide leadership, guidance and direction to the teams in all operational areas, ensuring that objectives, aims and targets are achieved.

On a day-to-day basis, the responsibilities of the Contracts Manager will include the following (not exhaustive):

  • Leading and ensuring delivery of the operational regional strategy and delivering against budget targets
  • Ensuring the team maximises financial returns on all contracts
  • Taking a strategic lead to monitor and when necessary, advising Operations Director of future opportunities in the operational area
  • Driving the Business Strategy, ensuring all operational activities comply with SHEQ procedures & business policies
  • Ensuring full compliance with safety, business policies and procedures
  • Driving the effective management of any exposure to both financial and contractual risk, and maximising financial return on all contracts
  • Developing & maintaining key customer relationships
  • Driving performance improvements within area of responsibility
  • Monitoring Training requirements for all operational staff and when necessary, organising necessary training and updating the Training Department on requirements
  • Producing Month End Commercial Reports, Forecasts, H&S KPIs and when required, providing improvement plans requested by Operations Director
  • Driving best practice and continuous improvements across business areas
  • Developing positive relationships with clients

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Contracts Manager will be someone who has previous experience in the same or a similar position. It would be preferable if you come from a Civils or Highways background, but this is by no means essential.

We are looking for someone who can lead a positive team culture and can demonstrate a strong customer focus by showing a strong understanding of customer needs to implement ideas that deliver value.

You will be someone who is a self-starter with drive and strives to continually improve. Furthermore, you will also have confidence in dealing with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders whilst being able to influence others.

If you have an SMSTS qualification and a professional or academic CSCS card, this would be beneficial in your application.
